Saman is chosen as the recipient of the Canadian Geophysical Union 2019 Young Scientist Award. This prestigious recognition is a competitive award, and it recognizes outstanding research contributions by a young scientist who is also a CGU member.(http://cgu-ugc.ca/awards/youngscientistaward/)
The award will be presented to him at this year’s IUGG meeting in Montreal (http://iugg2019montreal.com/).
Congrats Saman on this wonderful recognition!
Saman was invited to give a talk at the ECCC’s Flow Forecasting Workshop in Vancouver. This workshop was co-hosted by Environment and Climate Change Canada, Global Water Futures (https://gwf.usask.ca/) and FloodNET (http://www.nsercfloodnet.ca/). In his talk he discussed implications of Integrated Modelling and Model Sensitivity Analysis for flow forecasting. Experts from academic, regulatory, and industrial sectors from all provinces and various universities attended this workshop.
AGU Technical Committee on Hydrological Uncertainty has now a new website: http://hydrouncertainty.org/ and twitter account https://twitter.com/AGU_HU
Note: Saman is the Chair of this committee since Dec 2018: http://hydrouncertainty.org/officers-and-members/
Kasra, Amin, and Nhu are also members of this committee.
Razi Sheikholeslami successfully defended his PhD thesis titled: Developing Efficient Strategies for Global Sensitivity Analysis of Complex Environmental Systems Models.
Congrats Razi on this great achievement!
Lab members had a very active presence at the AGU Fall Meeting 2018.
Amin was invited by Department of Civil and Env. Eng. at Shiraz University, to give a talk on IMPC and a workshop on VARS. In his talk Amin introduced GIWS and Razavi’s Lab group, followed by an overview of the GWF and IMPC programs. He then introduced the sensitivity and uncertainty analysis concepts in modelling, followed by a detailed presentation on the VARS approach. He finished the workshop by a hands on step-by-step example using the MATLAB software VARS-TOOL. Nearly 40 graduate students and faculty members attended tthe workshop who received a certificate at the end.
IMPC held its first annual meeting on July 18-19th, 2018 at National Hydrology Research Centre, Saskatoon. This was a chance for members of the IMPC team, as well as the Global Water Futures (GWF) core modelling team, to present, evaluate, and discuss their progress over the past year. Strategies for user-engagement and knowledge mobilization was also discussed during the meeting.
This annual award is granted to a member of the Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS) in recognition of their outstanding excellence in water security research as acknowledged by their peers. The selection criteria include, International Stature, Impact of Research, Training of Highly Qualified Personnel, and Research Productivity. The award was announced during the GIWS- World Water Day 2018 event. Congratulations Saman!
